Abiline McShane – Ambassador for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Friendly Churches for the West Midlands and Warwickshire

IMG-20241025-WA0002

Abiline, a British Romany woman describes herself simply as “A mother who helps people.”

She has a disabled daughter who works alongside her and who is her first priority.

For her whole life, even when she was at school, Abiline has always acted as an intermediary between her community and the wider community. This includes mediation with the police, advising councils on planning and developing sites. If anyone needs to go on a site, Abiline is able to accompany them to help facilitate communication and build relationships. She helps organisations who need to connect  with different Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities to make those connections and deliver any information or training etc in an appropriate way. She is able to speak from lived experience having lived both on sites and on unauthorised encampments.

She works across communities doing a lot of work with schools, helping people access healthcare, working with elderly and dealing with suicide.

As Ambassador for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Friendly Churches Abiline’s desire is to see all churches, and indeed all faiths, truly practice what they preach.
